Werner S. Weiglhofer, formerly Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Glasgow.

Werner S. Weiglhofer, formerly Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Glasgow, died in a mountaineering accident in January, 2003. Among his notable research contributions rank the delineation of magnetic instabilities in rotating plasmas; the development of scalar Hertz potentials and Green functions for bianisotropic materials; wave propagation in structurally chiral materials, such as certain sculptured thin films; and homogenization of linear and nonlinear particulate composite materials.

Conference participants will enjoy the social dinner in the "Al Convento" Restaurant, located in Cetara, the historic fishermans village.

How to get to the social dinner
  • By bus: a bus will take the attendees from Hotel Cetus to the "Al Convento" Restaurant, and, after the dinner, back to Hotel Cetus.
  • On foot: Restaurant is ten minutes walking (about half mile) on a route without sidewalks.

Flying to Naples international Airport (NAP)

The closest airport is the Naples international Airport, located 37 miles far from Salerno.

Connections from Naples Airport to Salerno

  • BUS: The Naples airport is connected to Salerno by bus (about 45 minutes). See Airport website - Connections with the main cities in Campania for more information. In Salerno you have to take another bus to Cetara (SITASUD, here the link).
  • Train: take the ALIBUS shuttle (frequency 15 minutes) to Naples Central Station (about 15 minutes). From there, regional or high-speed trains take you to Salerno Central Station (about 40 minutes). Then you have to walk (3 minutes) to Piazza della Concordia (Concordia's Sq.) where you can take a regional bus (SITASUD, here the link) that can take you to Cetara in half an hour.
  • MILKO SERVICE. The private taxi company Milko Service can pick you up at the Airport and take you to Hotel Cetus. Milko Service knows about Weiglhofer-Symposium participants. The company can arrange both private and shared transfer.
